Project Engineer (Hybrid)

Job Description :

Reporting to the Business Development Manager, the Project Engineer will be in direct contact with customers on behalf of Smardt. He/she will be responsible for coordinating and managing activities with various stakeholders such as the Sales, Service, Field Service, QA/QC, and Engineering teams within Smardt, as well as with external members of the data center project team, including the data center ownership team, CX agent, EOR, GC, MEP subcontractors, equipment sub-sellers, etc. The role involves managing all activities related to the Smardt site, from equipment arrival on site to final handover to the customer after CX. This includes the coordination of activities between all the above-mentioned stakeholders, the execution of all start-up, CX and project activities on site, as well as the facilitation/tracking of all parts/services during the project schedule and after handover to the customer, including the transition to post-warranty and preventive maintenance services.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate delivery of equipment to customer sites;
  • Participate in factory and customer acceptance tests
  • Plan start-up activities;
  • Attend internal Smardt DC meetings and various weekly meetings;
  • Participate in scheduled pre-commissioning meetings;
  • Issue the required L2-L5 scripts/extensions;
  • Supervise all L2-L5 activities, including customer acceptance of equipment, start-up, commissioning and final IST testing activities;
  • Maintain on-site problems, deficiency lists and open items with Smardt and customer online tracking programs;
  • Coordinate with the Service team for all warranty visits, ensuring compliance with customer SLAs;
  • Coordinate with the Service team for all parts orders/deliveries both during the warranty period and post-warranty;
  • Review start-up and commissioning reports from service technicians;
  • Coordinate efforts with local service providers authorized by Smardt;
  • Prepare final closing documents for the product/project;
  • Coordinate training activities after project closure;
  • Develop lessons learned and a list of QA/QC projects to review with Engineering/Production/QA/QC teams;
  • Develop preventive maintenance programs and coordinate PM activities throughout the year;
  • Coordinate with internal Smardt teams and customer’s on-site project teams for any necessary RCA initiatives;
  • Lead and coordinate product updates and enhancements both internally and with customer sites;
  • Give instructions, write reports understandable to non-engineers and present plans, conclusions and recommendations clearly both internally and externally.
  • Any other related tasks, as indicated by your supervisor.

Qualifications :

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred;
  • Minimum experience of 3 to 5 years as a Project Engineer/Project Manager in the mechanical or HVAC field;
  • Experience in data centers is an asset;
  • Communication skills
  • Complex problem-solving skills such as planning, coordination, execution, negotiation, etc;
  • Decision-making skills to determine the feasibility of plans, particularly with regard to costs, deadlines, safety and quality;
  • Leadership skills to succeed how responsible for the success of the project as it relates to contractor site installation, start-up, commissioning, handover and post-sales activities;
