Chief accountant

The Ecomuseum Zoo is an educational animal park dedicated to the conservation of the flora and fauna of the St. Lawrence Valley. We welcome injured, orphaned and professionally cared-for ambassador animals, representing over 115 native species. Our mission is based on education, applied research and biodiversity awareness.

Job Description :

Reporting to the General Manager, the Chief Accountant is responsible for the accounting and financial management of the organization. You will play a key role in monitoring operations, producing financial statements and coordinating the budget and annual audit processes.

Responsibilities :

  • Manage the full cycle of accounting operations (invoicing, accounts receivable and payable, bank deposits, collections).
  • Prepare and validate financial transactions in computerized systems (general ledger, fixed assets, depreciation).
  • Perform monthly reconciliations and produce interim financial statements.
  • Participate in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial analyses.
  • Coordinate the annual audit and contribute to budget forecasts.
  • Produce government reports (GST/QST, T3010, etc.).
  • Supervise the accounting clerk and provide administrative support to the team.
  • Maintain data in systems and manage certain purchases (materials, equipment).

Profile required:

  • Degree in accounting or finance.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Fluently bilingual (French and English), excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Access).
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks: an asset.
  • Experience in a not-for-profit organization: an advantage.
  • Legal status to work in Canada (citizen, permanent resident or refugee).
  • Thoroughness, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage several priorities simultaneously.
  • Initiative, autonomy and good judgment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Discretion and respect for confidentiality.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and build strong professional relationships.
