Job Description :

We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Daycare Chef to join our team and provide nutritious, balanced and age-appropriate meals to the children in our care. The Daycare Manager will be responsible for preparing, cooking and serving meals and snacks, following strict food safety guidelines and respecting dietary and allergy requirements. This role requires strong planning skills, attention to detail and a commitment to encouraging healthy eating habits in children. At times, he or she will be required to lead and plan healthy cooking activities with groups of children aged 2 to 5.

Responsibilities :

  • Prepare and cook meals and snacks for children, ensuring that meals are nutritious, safe and meet all dietary needs and allergies.
  • Develop weekly menus in collaboration with staff, ensuring variety, nutrition and adherence to dietary guidelines.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety, including storage, handling and sanitation of kitchen equipment.
  • Ensure that all necessary ingredients are in stock and available. Shop for and procure necessary items, and keep accurate records of inventory and purchases (2 hours per week).
  • Prepare visually appealing meals adapted to children’s tastes and needs, including special dietary accommodations (e.g. vegetarian, gluten-free).
  • Minimize food waste by planning and portioning meals appropriately.
  • Work closely with daycare staff to ensure the smooth running of meals and address any concerns related to meals, allergies or food preferences.

Qualifications :

  • Proven experience as a chef, cook or kitchen manager, preferably in a daycare center, school or childcare facility.
  • 2-year culinary school diploma. Certification in food safety or related field preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of nutrition and meal preparation, especially for young children. Understanding of dietary restrictions and allergies.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, lift and carry up to 25 lbs, and work in a dynamic kitchen environment.
  • A criminal background check is required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to comply with guidelines and regulations.
