The West Island Women’s Shelter is an organization dedicated to defending the rights of women and children affected by domestic violence. For over 45 years, it has provided shelter, support and advocacy services across the West Island, offering a professional and compassionate environment.

Job description :

The Socio-Legal Intervention Worker supports women through civil and criminal legal processes. The role focuses on advocacy, guidance and empowerment, helping clients regain control over their lives while working closely with legal and community partners.

Responsibilities :

Development and partnerships

  • Develop and maintain a network of partners (lawyers, legal aid, etc.)
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders

Intervention

  • Inform clients about legal processes
  • Support women through legal procedures
  • Prepare case files with clients
  • Accompany clients to legal appointments and court
  • Assist in drafting affidavits
  • Prepare clients for psychosocial assessments

Community life

  • Ensure adherence to shelter policies
  • Facilitate group information sessions
  • Participate in social activities
  • Work closely with team members and management

Administration

  • Complete statistical and communication tools
  • Maintain documentation
  • Participate in team meetings and clinical supervision
  • Support internal communication
Candidate profile :
  • Law degree and member of the Quebec Bar
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in women’s rights advocacy
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Leadership and ability to educate and inform
  • Feminist understanding of domestic violence issues
  • Excellent French and English skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build equitable relationships
