Animal Caretaker

The Zoo Ecomuseum is an educational wildlife park dedicated to education, applied research, and conservation of flora and fauna from the St. Lawrence Valley. The zoo provides care for injured, orphaned, or human‑raised ambassador animals and showcases over 115 native species, including fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and mammals.

Job description :

Reporting to the Director of Animal Care, the Animal Caretaker is responsible for ensuring the well‑being of the animals in the Zoo Ecomuseum’s collection through daily care activities. The role also includes public interpretation, supporting the zoo’s educational mission.

Specific Working Conditions:

  • Field‑based work in an animal care environment
  • Daily interaction with animals
  • Participation in educational programming
  • Variable schedule based on operational needs
Responsibilities :
  • Support daily animal care operations
  • Prepare food and feed animals according to schedules
  • Clean and disinfect animal habitats and service areas
  • Participate in enrichment and training activities
  • Assist during animal restraint procedures as instructed
  • Maintain animal records and documentation
  • Take part in educational activities and public presentations
  • Perform other related duties as required
Candidate profile :
  • Currently pursuing or holding a diploma in zoology, animal biology or a related field
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with animals
  • Experience in a non‑profit organization (asset)
  • Fully bilingual in French and English (spoken and written)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or refugee with legal authorization to work in Canada
  • Positive attitude and strong motivation
  • Good organizational skills and autonomy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Accuracy, efficiency and strong follow‑up skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and take initiative
