Building Inspector – Intern

Job description :

Reporting to the Director of Urban Planning, the Building Inspector Intern assists with permit and certificate issuance and follow‑up, as well as inspection, monitoring and investigation activities for residential, commercial and institutional buildings. The intern also supports citizen inquiries and administrative tasks.

Specific Working Conditions:

  • Paid full‑time internship
  • 35 hours per week
  • Approximately 17‑week duration (May to August 2026)
  • Group 9
  • Combination of field and office work
  • Travel within the municipal territory
Responsibilities :
  • Follow up on work authorized under issued permits and certificates
  • Inspect buildings and verify compliance with approved plans
  • Ensure compliance with applicable urban planning regulations
  • Enforce municipal laws and regulations, including urban planning legislation
  • Provide information to citizens regarding municipal regulations
  • Investigate complaints, issue notices of violation and follow up as required
  • Perform administrative tasks such as filing, archiving and document management
  • Monitor administrative procedures related to inspection files
Candidate profile :
  • DEC or AEC in Building Inspection, Architecture or related field (completed or in progress)
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Excellent command of French and English, spoken and written
  • Good knowledge of municipal urban planning regulations and laws
  • Strong analytical and report‑writing skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Autonomous, resourceful and well organized
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills and positive attitude
  • Commitment to continuous improvement of municipal service quality
