Animal feed technician
The Ecomuseum Zoo is an educational wildlife park dedicated to protecting the flora and fauna of the St. Lawrence Valley. Its mission is based on education, applied research and conservation. The zoo welcomes exclusively ambassador animals that have been injured, orphaned or born under professional care. Over 115 native species are represented, including fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds and mammals.
Job description
Under the direct supervision of the Animal Care Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for the daily preparation of meals for the zoo’s various species, in accordance with the nutritional guidelines established by the Animal Care team and the Chief Veterinary Officer.
Main responsibilities
- Prepare meals for animals according to specific diets and established guidelines.
- Prepare and integrate certain supplements and medications into rations, as indicated.
- Maintain a clean, safe and well-organized work environment in the kitchen and storage areas.
- Rotate food products and ensure freshness.
- Carry out periodic inventories of food, supplements and certain medications, then forward this information to the person in charge.
- Comply with the standards of the Canadian Accredited Aquarium and Zoo Association (CAZA-AZAC) and all other applicable standards, and aim to exceed them whenever possible.
- Carry out any other related tasks required for the smooth running of the department.
Profile required
- Training or relevant experience in a related field (animal care, agriculture, biology, professional cooking, etc.).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English (bilingualism required).
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, in the process of becoming one, or have refugee status with the right to work in Canada.
- Highly motivated and interested in animal care and the organization’s mission.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to follow precise protocols.
- Ability to work independently, rigorously and reliably.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and maintain good team relations.
- Quick to learn, initiative and a desire to contribute to a positive working environment.
- Good physical condition: ability to lift reasonable loads and work standing for long periods.
